Dragon Age: The Veilguard Companion Romance Is a Step Backwards

Interesting article. I can see Gaider's pov regarding placing limitations on character development in the furtherance of romancability, with Dorian as an excellent example.

I've never really minded limitations on who I can romance, mainly because I figure that's what fanfic & PbP is for.

Anybody else?

I love it when characters have strong opinions on things in games - and a preference in their sexuality is one of them. Do I mind being able to romance everyone with whoever I want? Not really. But I do think it takes away from the characters a little bit. And that's what multiple playthroughs are for if you can't romance someone just because you picked the "wrong" race or gender.

That being said, I did like how Larian studios made some of their romances a bit more difficult to obtain depending on your choices, even if everyone is able to be romanced by everyone. So... I hope everyone isn't just in love with everyone and there might be some sort of challenge to things in DAV when it comes to romance.

Yeah, as long as it doesn't feel like they're humping my leg after two conversations (I'm looking at you, ME1 devs), it'll be doable.

What I really hope is that they have put effort into building friendships with your companions, because that is what takes a CRPG from good to great for me. I'm still waiting hopefully for the ME equivalent of Citadel DLC.
