Name: Teagan Guerrin

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Date of Birth: 20 Firstfall, 8:94 Blessed in Redcliffe

Occupation: Arl of Redcliffe

Companion(s): A large, Bannorn-bred chestnut stallion named Bastian.

Though he never became the knight he so longed to be as a boy, Teagan has maintained a warrior’s physique over the years--along with the scars to accompany it. Standing 6’1’’ with an athletic build comprised of lean muscle, he is determined to be seen not merely as a politician, but a man who will do whatever needs to be done.

Teagan’s auburn hair and bright blue eyes immediately give away his lineage. Kept relatively short, his hair is almost always accompanied by a single braid on the left side, a well-trimmed goatee completing the look. His fair skin with its light dusting of freckles over his face and body keep him looking a touch younger than he is, while prominent laugh lines at the corner of his eyes show years well spent.

Class: Warrior

Specialization: Guardian (Master)

Weapons & Armor: Though he’s not needed to don the full regalia since the Blight, Teagan owns a fitted set of Red Steel armor, as well as a Red Steel longsword gifted to him many years ago by King Maric. The sword is always accompanied by his brother’s old Steel Kite Shield, emblazoned with the Guerrin family crest.

Languages: Common (written and spoken), Orlesian (written and spoken)

Non-Combat Skills:

Master: Leadership, Diplomacy
Expert: Military Lore, Historical Lore (Ferelden), Heraldry (Ferelden), Calligraphy, Stamina, Historical Lore (Free Marches)
Intermediate: Etiquette (Ferelden), Dancing, Artistry, Contacts, Coercion, Drinking
Novice: Riding

Combat Skills:

Master: Aura of the Stalwart Defender
Expert: Weapon & Shield, Master Guardian
Intermediate: Fortifying Presence, Bows, Single Weapon (Sword), Dual Weapons (Daggers)
Novice: Guardian’s Shield

Armor Proficiency: Medium, Heavy

Teagan is well-suited to the role of diplomacy. Outwardly warm, gregarious, and charming, he makes a positive first impression with commoners and nobles alike. But he is also a man who is known for the fierceness of his convictions and his unwavering resolve to do what he considers right, even if it opposes popular opinion. He is stubborn to a fault sometimes, and hates when he is unable to see things through.

An excellent judge of character, he chooses his friends wisely and treats his enemies with respect and civility as is their due. He is extremely loyal, and expects the same loyalty from close friends and romantic partners, having somewhat of a jealous streak.

While he is a passionate man, Teagan has long since stopped wearing his heart on his sleeve. He knows how to adopt the proper mask for each social situation, and plays the Game quite well, despite his insistence that he wanted no part of it in his youth.

He throws himself into his work more often than not, and suffers from regular migraines as a result.

The youngest child of Rendorn and Marina Guerrin, Teagan Guerrin enjoyed a rather carefree existence for the first eight years of his life. With no responsibilities to speak of, he spent his early days exploring the hidden reaches of Redcliffe Castle and beyond, completely oblivious to the coming rebellion.

When the Guerrins joined the uprising, young Teagan and his brother Eamon were sent to the Free Marches to live on a rural estate with an old family friend. The two were put to work as a matter of learning discipline, responsibility, and a healthy respect for the many blessings afforded to them as nobles. It was there that both boys learned of their father’s death, with Eamon--ten years Teagan’s senior--withdrawing significantly as a result of the role he would soon have to occupy.

It was already a new Age when they were allowed to return to Ferelden. Eamon became Arl of Redcliffe, Rowan was Queen, and Teagan was left to resent the way their respective positions changed his siblings, swearing he would never fall under the same weight. By sixteen--with his brother dictating Teagan’s future as the Bann of Rainesfere once he came of age--he was looking for an escape. He found it in Catriona Tierney, a nobleman’s daughter.

Their whirlwind romance ended rather abruptly when Catriona revealed she was pregnant. Lying to spare his future, Catriona told him the child belonged to another. Heartbroken, Teagan eventually accepted the title of Bann, if not the responsibilities. Focusing on his martial training, he did everything in his power to put Catriona out of his mind--and he mostly succeeded.

As he matured, Teagan formed deep bonds with his family: Specifically with Rowan’s son, Cailan. Eamon always believed he was simply delaying his own adulthood as long as humanly possible, but Teagan quickly became the favored uncle, his bond with Cailan growing once Rowan passed.

When Cailan was abandoned and left to die at the Battle of Ostagar, Teagan was driven to true action for the first time in his life. A strong voice of dissent at the Landsmeet, he finally became a presence in the politics of Ferelden, and it was a presence he threw his whole heart into, on his nephew’s behalf.

Returning to Rainesfere, he took responsibility for his people, and tried his best to do right by them. After the Blight, Teagan earned a great deal of respect among the other nobles of Ferelden, and even became well-loved by his people as he spent every waking hour attempting to make up for his prior neglect. The latter was far more meaningful to him, though he swiftly grew into his role as a political dignitary, his sharp tongue and persistence securing many arrangements.

Just when he felt he was beginning to reach a respectable stride, his world fell into chaos again when Catriona’s now adult daughter suddenly appeared in his life and confirmed what Teagan already knew--that he was her father. Over the next two years, they managed to forge a relationship that helped ease the pain of his brother’s death and the stress of inheriting the arling. Breanna even agreed to take the Guerrin name and accepted Teagan’s former role as Bann of Rainesfere.

A comfortable routine settled between the two of them, but it was upended when Catriona--presumed dead in the Blight--turned up very much alive. Rediscovering old feelings he’d thought long buried, Teagan made an honest attempt at rekindling what they’d had as teenagers. But the years had changed them both, and though it still pains him, they eventually parted under amicable terms, with Catriona returning to Orlais.

These days, Teagan has thrown himself into his role as Arl. His personal life is nearly nonexistent, his migraines far more frequent, but he is doing everything in his power to ensure his people--and his family--are well cared for.

UPDATE

Backstory Update

At first, Teagan found himself maintaining a precarious balance between his work and home life, often feeling the need to make up for years of neglect in both areas. Like his brother and father before him, Teagan began to tread a path with little balance whatsoever, thankfully spared from that fate by those who cared enough to tell him how excessive it was. This period of his life led to many an argument with his daughter, Breanna, but her persistence eventually made him see the "atonement" he sought was a construct of his own insecurities.

After putting his myriad ghosts to rest, Teagan finally settled into a more healthy, balanced lifestyle with aid from an unlikely source--Kiley Daire. Though his relationship with Kiley was unconventional, they found more commonalities than differences, and she became a friend when Teagan most needed one. Though he was reluctant to admit she was anything more, his commitment to leaving the past behind him brought new clarity. The two were married in 9:40, with their first child Brennan born before those nuptials, and Rowan born after.

While Redcliffe was mostly removed from conflict for a time, that came to an end the day Gereon Alexius decided to claim the fortress as his personal stronghold. Despite knowing he was outnumbered, Teagan fought til the bitter end, eventually subdued by blood magic and forced to seek aid from the Crown. Redcliffe was restored, but not without cost.

In the intervening years, Teagan focused on protecting his family and fortifying his home against further attacks, offering what aid he could to the Inquisition. When Corypheus was finally slain and political focus turned to bridging the long-standing tension with Orlais, Teagan officially accepted a position he'd only filled temporarily in the past, acting as co-ambassador alongside his wife. Despite his support of Inquisitor Sati, he is wary of concentrating so much power into one organization, and continues to butt heads with her over the matter.
