The following is a timeline of events effecting the Grey Wardens in Thedas: Timelines during the DAO/DA2 Timeline. Unless an item is marked with italics, the information is easily known by any member of the Grey Wardens. - The Fifth Blight begins in the Korcari Wilds and southern Ferelden when the Architect's failed attempt to make a Disciple out of Urthemiel instead results in the Old God becoming an Archdemon.
- Warden Aedan Cousland is inducted into the Grey Wardens.
- Ferelden is defeated at the Battle of Ostagar by the darkspawn; the battle is lost when Teyrn Loghain Mac Tir deserts, resulting in the destruction of the Fereldan army, the near-destruction and exile of the Grey Warden order, and the deaths of King Cailan Theirin and Warden Commander Duncan.
- The Warden and Alistair are saved by a Witch of the Wilds, Flemeth.
- Teyrn Loghain Mac Tir returns to Denerim and declares himself regent, triggering a a civil war between Ferelden's nobility.
- Events described in Dragon Age II begin. Lothering is destroyed by the darkspawn and the Hawke family (along with Aveline Vallen) flee to Kirkwall with the aid of Flemeth.
- Over the course of the coming months, the two remaining Wardens, Aedan Cousland and Alistair Theirin unite the people of Ferelden with their treaties.
- The Landsmeet. Loghain is killed and Alistair appointed King.
- The Siege of Denerim. The Grey Warden's armies are marched to Denerim, ultimately destroying the Archdemon and ending the Blight. Urthemiel is slain by one of the remaining Grey Wardens in Ferelden at the Battle of Denerim and The Warden becomes the "Hero of Ferelden."
- Morrigan leaves carrying Aedan’s unborn child.
- After Alistair's coronation, a great celebration is held for the Grey Warden and his allies before they part ways.
- Alistair and Aedan return to Ostagar to investigate the fate of King Cailan and Duncan. Cailan’s body is found and sent to the Maker on a funeral pyre.
- Darkspawn stragglers take longer than expected to turn underground; new darkspawn attacks and raids, centered around the arling of Amaranthine, begin. The Grey Wardens begin rebuilding at this time and are immediately tasked with putting down the pockets of resistance. (Awakening)
- Nathaniel Howe, Anders, Sigrun, Justice, Oghren all joined by Aedan Cousland
- Remaining darkspawn in Ferelden are purged by the Warden-Commander and the replenished Fereldan Wardens. The Darkspawn Civil War ends.
- The Architect is spared.
- Velanna and Justice disappear after the Darkspawn Civil War is won.

- Aedan Cousland leads an expedition into the Wastes to investigate darkspawn sightings.

- Aedan Cousland reveals to the Fereldan Grey Wardens that he engaged in the dark ritual with Morrigan to avoid dying when slaying the Archdemon atop Fort Drakon
- Orlesian Wardens arrive at Vigil’s Keep at the behest of the First Warden
- Aedan asks Nathaniel to become Warden-Commander and Arl.
- Aedan Cousland resigns as Warden Commander and Arl of Amaranthine, naming Nathaniel Howe to the positions.
- Siali joined by Nathaniel
- Aedan decides to leave Ferelden
- Fiagai joined by Oghren
- The Red Conscription occurs - all occupants of the dungeon jail in Highever are conscripted by Nathaniel Howe (Lucien amongst the conscripts)
- Lucien and Cauthrien joined by Nathaniel. Only 2 of 7 to survive their Joining.
- Nathaniel marries his mistress in Amaranthine
34 Dragon

- Aedan returns to Ferelden only to leave again; this time for good he claims.
- Nathaniel gives over an apostate serving in the Vigil’s Keep kitchens to the templars
- Nathaniel’s wife is murdered in Denerim.
- Fiagai made Warden-Lieutenant over Vigil's Keep
35 Dragon

- Nathaniel travels to Orlais
- The Chantry annuls the Circle in Ansburg, refuses to tell anyone why.
- Wardens in the Free Marches are being reassigned to other countries or being moved to a secret location in the Vimmarks after high tensions with the Chantry, which require all warden mages to be escorted by non-mage Wardens.
- Muriel and Matthias join the Fereldan Wardens by way of the Free Marches
- Roland conscripted by Cauthrien.
- Nathaniel returns from Orlais
- Darkspawn begin to steal women from the Redcliffe area. Arl Teagan requests Grey Warden aid.
- Nathaniel Howe’s wife’s murderers are executed by order of the King
- The Grey Wardens begin dealing in the lyrium trade
- Grey Warden mages harassed in Amaranthine
- Cauthrien made Warden-Constable
- The Wardens take out a nest of Broodmothers near Redcliffe. Fiagai and Matthias die. Cauthrien almost dies but is brought back by the mages.
- Tessa, one of the women kidnapped by darkspawn, is joined by Nathaniel
Justinian, 35 Dragon
- Nathaniel Howe announces his sister, Delilah, Bann of Amaranthine
- Aedan Cousland is captured & arrested by the Grey Wardens and delivered to Weisshaupt Fortress
Solace, 35 Dragon
- The King requests and receives Grey Warden mage phyalcteries.
- Mysaria and Aerion sent to Gwaren.
- Nathaniel visits Weisshaupt
- Nathaniel returns from abroad
- Niamh and Mara joined by Anders.
- Cauthrien injured in battle
- Anders turns abomination and is killed.
- Cordelia is conscripted from the Circle Tower by Nathaniel
- Darkspawn invade from beneath the Arl of Denerim's estate and are defeated by the Grey Wardens led by Cauthrien
