Big thanks to Cauthrien for making the sanctuary thread official.

Grand Forest Villa
Mercenary Fortress turned Templar Sanctuary
Thedas Timelines board location: here.

  • used to belong to House Guerrin before the Fifth Blight, so potential for some awkwardness there
  • ownership changed hands so many times - Guerrins, Carta, Outlaws, Inquisition - there's bound to be weird stuff in the cellars or in hidden, tucked away spots in or around the villa
  • rests along an old lyrium smuggling route, which could make for some interesting drama in the event that any smugglers resume shenanigans
  • already has a decent chapel (with a big, pretty tree), so it makes sense that Divine Victoria would choose this spot to put in Cullen's hands
  • it's tucked away in Hafter's Woods, so there's definitely bears, rams, and fennecs to hunt
Funny thing is, during my web research of all the potential sanctuary locations, I stumbled upon this (note the fine print below the GFV title)...

GFV.png

So, apparently, not the first to think "hey, this would make a great spot a rehab"...go figure.

Post edit: changed subject line from "Sanctuary Site? Thedosian Real Estate Edition..." to be more relevant for future story planning at GFV overall. Anything do with Templar sanctuary-related plots can go in this thread. Also condensed prior plotting posts into this first master post, to clean things up a bit.

Planned Thread Ideas

Open to all; anyone interested...

Divine Gestures
Location
: Kirkwall; Free Marches
Timing: August 9:44
Plot: Cullen receives the deed to Grand Forest Villa from Divine Victoria; is left w/ the difficult decision of dividing his time between the Inquisition and setting up the sanctuary. Add-in any other drama relating to the Chantry while we're at it, why not?
Confirmed Characters: Cullen
NPCs: Cassandra, Belinda Darrow, yet to be named Chantry official/messenger, & misc. Inquisition supporting characters if need be.

All At Sea
Location
: The Waking Sea & the Amaranthine Ocean.
Timing: Flexible. Sometime between August and Harvestmere 9:44.
Plot: Setting out aboard a ship ahead of winter, to try and avoid any bad weather once they get to Ferelden - this will not go according to plan and a storm will pull them out to a strange and unfamiliar part of the Amaranthine Ocean. Eventually, they'll find their bearings again (or they're saved). Anyone travelling from Kirkwall to Ferelden would be welcome.
Confirmed Characters: Cullen, Hanamene Thornecroft
NPCs: Cullen will likely have some Inquisition and/or Chantry folks with him, scouts, laborers (some he may have hired in Kirkwall), officials, and the like... *ahem* some will likely not survive the journey.

Autumn In Denerim
Location
: Denerim
Timing: Flexible. Sometime around Harvestmere 9:44.
Plot: Recovering and resupplying in whichever port city is decided upon. This stay has the potential to last longer than Cullen might wish, if he winds up getting involved in any other plots in the area, anyone is sick or injured, or if there's an issue/delay wth getting certain supplies.
Confirmed Characters: Cullen, Hanamene Thornecroft
NPCs: townsfolk and Chantry sisters of wherever they wind up.

Hinterland Bound
Location(s)
: anywhere from point A (whichever port city) to point B (Grand Forest Villa); roads, trails, farmhouses, roadside taverns, etc.
Timing: Flexible. Sometime between Harvestmere and Firstfall 9:44.
Plot: Effectively an "on the road" plot which could also include short-cuts through forests, etc. Opportunity for stopovers and to meet new folks along the way.
Confirmed Characters: Cullen
NPCs: Belette. Other travellers - merchants, pilgrims, campers, etc. Might not have much run-ins with the Dalish, given that elves have largely disappeared by this time - but open to some stray clan, milling about maybe.

Grand Forest Ventures
Location
: Grand Forest Villa; Hinterlands; Ferelden
Timing: Flexible. Sometime between Firstfall and Haring 9:44. Ideally before it actually starts snowing in Ferelden.
Plot: Arriving at Grand Forest Villa (which has been in the hands of the Inquisition/Chantry since the end of DA:I). Likely reuniting with some of Inquisition's supporting characters (anyone - scouts, former templars, etc. - that might have been stationed there). Kicking off the set up of the sanctuary, and perhaps rooting out a few outlaws still poking about in the area.
Confirmed Characters: Cullen
NPCs: Lysette, maybe.

The Maker's Instruments
Location
: Grand Forest Villa; Hinterlands; Ferelden
Timing: Flexible. Sometime late Spring or early Summer, 9:45.
Plot: At Divine Victoria's behest, and much to his chagrin, Cullen is forced to hold a banquet at Grand Forest Villa. A number of nobles throughout Thedas, faithful to the Chantry, will have been invited. The purpose of the banquet is to raise money and support for the sanctuary overall, but more specifically to add a new wing to the fortress - it's politically complicated as some might view the sanctuary, and the ex-templars within, with suspicion. Either way, Cullen will not be comfortable playing the part of host.
Confirmed Characters: Cullen
NPCs: Divine Victoria (aka Mother Giselle), various nobles.

Interested. The All At Sea one seems like it would be hilariously disastrous. Just picturing a bunch of people bickering about what to do when things go ass up.

Keep me in the loop!

Awesome! Is Hanamene still part of the Inquisition by then?

FYI leaning toward Denerim for the Autumn In... one. Thought it might be funny if they're towed in by the royal fleet or something like that. Maximum embarrassment for the Commander.

-ish. More devoted to House Guerrin post-Trespasser but this all seems like planning some ways ahead, so I'm sure I can drum up a reason for her to be back in Kirkwall again before AAS prompts. Maybe Hal (her old boss/surrogate father figure) got married or something lol

Hana can swing by the new Inquisition headquarters, say hi to folks, while she's in town and then maybe hitches a ride back to Ferelden with Cullen and crew.

Denerim works for me! I haven't had a chance to place Hana there yet so that would be fun.

True, still a ways ahead. Glad to have you on board, either way. Just finished reading Hana's profile a while ago, lots of parallels for us to work with in general. Looking forward to it.

Ok. Denerim it is... editing to reflect such... now...
